Stage 5 of TICK - Structured Synthetic Phonics Programme for Kiwi kids

Stage 5

Stage 5 marks the conclusion of the TICK literacy journey. It is crucial that students have completed Stages 2, 3, and 4 before embarking on this final stage.

During this stage, students will encounter new graphemes, prefixes, suffixes, and irregular nouns. We've deliberately saved the most challenging and less common elements for this stage. The primary focus will be on 'silent letter' graphemes. The Stage 5 graphemes will be introduced in the following order, from left to right:

As students advance through this stage, they will also master the reading and spelling of the heart words 'two', 'who', 'pretty', 'heard', 'eyes', 'minutes', 'through', and 'thought'.

All of the Stage 5 resources are currently undergoing rigorous testing and are scheduled for release in June 2025.
