GETTING STARTED

Our eBooks are a little different from most others you may have come across, as they do not follow a particular scope and sequence. They have been designed to be used alongside any programme, with the numbered books appearing in a different order depending on the programme.

Below, we’ll help you determine the order in which the books should be read for your child and where to begin.

Step 1: Check Prior Knowledge

In order for a child to be capable of reading our Are You Right? eBooks, they need some phoneme (sound) knowledge and the ability to blend three sounds together (e.g., c-a-t = cat).

If you already know the phonemes (sounds) that your child knows and that they have the blending skills required, you can proceed to Step 2. Similarly, if your child already knows all of their alphabet sounds and you’re focusing on reading fluency, you can proceed directly to Step 2.

For those of you who would like to test your child's phoneme and phonological skills, we have provided a free assessment document HERE.

Step 2: Identify Your Child’s Phonics Programme

If your child is in school, find out which phonics programme is being used so you can align our eBooks to it.

If your child is not yet at school or not following a set programme, we recommend using the Phonics International programme and its scope and sequence - a free and well tested option. More information about Phonics International can be obtained HERE

Step 3: Match eBooks to Your Programme

Scroll down below these instructions to find the grid that matches your child’s programme - each grid shows which eBook numbers are suitable for each alphabet phoneme.

Can't find your programme below? Contact us and we’ll create a grid for you. We’re always happy to help.

Once you have a screenshot or a print out of your grid, and using the information from Step 1 and 2, visit our eBook Alignment document to find out which eBooks to start with.

Step 4: Set Up Your Device

To read our eBooks, install a free EPUB reader app on your device (tablet, iPad, or phone recommended, but computers work well too). You’ll find a list of compatible apps on our FAQ page.

Step 5: Choose Your eBooks

Visit our CVC, Noun Phrase, Fragment and Sentence, or Sentence pages to find the eBook numbers that suit your child’s level.

Don’t forget - you can enjoy a free copy of each eBook from our Free Resources page too.

Happy Reading!
