Welcome to an exciting stage dedicated to the exploration of vowels and vowel teams! Before embarking on this adventure, it is crucial that students have successfully completed Stage 2.
In the 59 lessons offered within this stage, we will delve into the graphemes 'ng', 'ae', 'oe', 'ue', the two common phonemes of 'ie', 'igh', 'ey' as /ee/, 'oa', 'ai', 'ay', 'aigh', and the three phonemes of 'ea'.
The TICK programme contains 'must do' lessons as well as 'can dos'. This flexibility allows you to cover the knowledge that best fits your student's age and stage.
In Stage 3, students will also be exposed to various suffixes and prefixes (including -ing) and gain knowledge about long vowels, open syllables, the versatile roles of the letter 'e' at the end of words, C-le syllables, Magic e, CVe syllables, and 'y' as a vowel.
During this stage, you can also cover information about substituting 'y' with 'i' and removing 'e' prior to adding a suffix.
