‘The Boar’ is both an educational and entertaining phonics game designed to help children master the phoneme /or/ by focusing on the graphemes: ‘or’, ‘our’, ‘ore’, ‘oar’, and ‘oor’.
To play this game, children require the skill to blend together words of between two and four sounds, enhancing their fluency of a number of high frequency words, further develop their confidence with closed syllables and the suffix –s.
 
You will need to gather between two and four players who will also need the knowledge of the alphabet sounds and the graphemes ‘ch’, ‘th’, and ‘sh’, as well as the focus graphemes.
 
If a child is unsure of a particular grapheme, those playing cards can be withheld and will not affect the game’s playability.
