‘Mad Bird’ provides children with a valuable opportunity to explore graphemes ‘ir’, ‘ur’, and ‘er’, enhancing their understanding of these phonemic representations.

If the group of children are not yet confident in all of the /er/ graphemes, this game can be adapted to focus on only one or two of the graphemes. Players will practice blending between two to four sounds and strengthen their fluency in recognising high-frequency words.

This game is perfect for small groups of players who are already familiar with ‘ir’, ‘ur’, ‘er’, ‘ch’, ‘th’, ‘wh’, and alphabet sounds. The game also includes reading words with closed syllables and even tackles schwas, like 'butter’.
