Stage 2 is the ideal starting point for remedial students or those who have already completed Stage 1. To benefit from this stage of TICK, students will need to know most, if not all, of their alphabet sounds prior to commencing.

The second stage of TICK consists of 47 lessons which begin with a review of the alphabet sounds, progressing from two phonemes to three, then four, and onward to new knowledge and graphemes.

TICK offers lessons within each stage that are 'must dos' and 'can dos', which allows you the flexibility to meet the needs of your students.

Through this stage, students will cover rules for words ending in /c/, double consonants, FLOSS, both common 'oo' sounds, compound words, the schwa (as found in 'carrot' and 'doctor'), and the suffixes -s, -es, -er, and -ed. The Rabbit rule, 'c' vs. 'k' usage, and closed, r-controlled, and vowel team syllables are also covered during this stage.

The new graphemes taught within this stage are 'oo', 'ee', 'sh', 'ch', 'tch', 'th', 'wh', 'ph', 'el', 'ar', 'or', 'ir', 'ur', 'er', as well as the trigraphs for the phonemes /ear/ and /or/.
